We have been fortunate enough to experience an amazing outcome from the very first Black Ribbon Benefit this past year. We raised $5,000 with only two month’s planning and helped to co-sponsor a grant through the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) for melanoma research. Due to the obvious success of last year’s event, the Black Ribbon Benefit will continue on, fighting with persistence and passion for a cure. The purpose of The Black Ribbon Benefit is to create awareness and generate fundraising for the MRF to find a cure for melanoma skin cancer. Not only is there no cure, there is a dire lack of funding for research and even less awareness within the general population.

People may only think pink when viewing cancer, but the goal of this event is to bring another frightenng color to the surface. Why black? Black is the awareness color for melanoma. It’s also the color of the warrior’s mood when going into battle, for melanoma patients are in a battle for their lives with this beast. Melanoma patients often refer to this disease as “the beast” due to how hard to detect, highly aggressive, and deadly melanoma can be. Let’s bring it to the forefront, exposing how serious this cancer is. Our goals are to educate the community on how to help prevent melanoma and most importantly, to save lives from this vicious disease by finding a cure.

The Black Ribbon Benefit is a non-profit 5013C status organization in partnership with Anderson’s Army and the MRF. All proceeds are tax deductible as allowed by law (Tax EIN #76-0514428.) The Second Annual Black Ribbon Benefit will be held on Saturday, September 8th from 5pm-11pm. The event will take place at Gordy’s Bar and Grill, 6150 Sunbury Rd., Westerville, Ohio 43081, (614) 895-1147. There will be live entertainment, games, silent and live auctions, drinks and food. Please visit the Black Ribbon Benefit website at www.myspace.com/theblackbenefit for complete details. All proceeds will benefit the MRF, which is committed to medical research for finding a cure, educating patients and physicians, and being an advocate of awareness for the melanoma community. To find out more about the MRF please visit www.melanoma.org.

Your contributions to this cause are greatly appreciated, as all proceeds will be used to fight the War on Melanoma Cancer. Please make checks payable to Black Ribbon Benefit. The mailing address is: 1239 Reserve Drive, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. We will also accept cash and credit card donations on the day of the event. Participating sponsors will be displayed accordingly, please see the Black Ribbon Benefit Sponsorship Proposal for more information. Thank you for your support in furthering this important cause.
